Cortagen dosage and protocol

Cortagen is a peptide bioregulator that has been studied for immune and neuroendocrine system support. It belongs to the Khavinson peptide bioregulator family.

  • Vial size: 20 mg
  • Reconstitution: 3 mL bacteriostatic water
  • Concentration: 6.67 mg/mL
  • Administration: subcutaneous

Research areas

  • Immune Function
  • Neuroendocrine Research
  • Brain Health

Quick start

  • Reconstitute: Add 3 mL bacteriostatic water to the 20 mg vial for about 6.67 mg/mL
  • Typical dose: 1,000 mcg once daily for two weeks, then 2,000 mcg
  • Easy measuring: At 6.67 mg/mL, 1 unit (0.01 mL) is about 67 mcg on a U-100 syringe, so 1,000 mcg is 15 units and 2,000 mcg is 30 units
  • Storage: Freeze before mixing; refrigerate after and use within 30 days

Dosing protocol

Weeks 1–21000 mcgOnce daily (SC)0.15 mL (15 units)
Weeks 3–42000 mcgOnce daily (SC)0.30 mL (30 units)

How it works

Cortagen is a synthetic tetrapeptide (Ala-Glu-Asp-Pro) from the Khavinson short peptide bioregulator family. It was modeled on peptide fractions from cerebral cortex tissue and is described as a regulator of the central nervous system, with additional proposed effects on immune and neuroendocrine function. Like other bioregulators, it is hypothesized to act inside cells by interacting with chromatin and influencing gene expression rather than by binding a specific membrane receptor. Reports from the originating research group, mostly in rodents and cell cultures, describe effects on expression of genes related to nerve tissue function and stress responses, improved recovery in models of peripheral nerve injury, and modulation of some immune and cardiac parameters. These findings are interpreted as a normalizing influence on tissue that has been damaged or is aging. Overall, the evidence is preliminary. Most studies come from a small group of Russian institutions, with limited independent replication and no rigorous placebo-controlled human trials in widely indexed journals. The doses in this record (1–2 mg injected daily) are higher than the low doses typically described for bioregulator courses, and their safety has not been specifically studied.

Reconstitution steps

  • Draw 3.0 mL bacteriostatic water with a sterile syringe
  • Inject slowly down the vial wall; avoid foaming
  • Gently swirl/roll until dissolved (do not shake)
  • Label and refrigerate at 2–8°C, protected from light

Storage

Store frozen before reconstitution. Refrigerate after. Use within 30 days.
